Aquarius teams up with Kerrang! Radio

Aquarius posted a questionnaire on www.kerrangradio.co.uk to investigate various issues surrounding alcohol consumption and drinking habits such as: underage drinking, drugs and drinking, alcohol and crime, home drinking and drinking problems.

The questionnaire was posted on the Kerrang website for four weeks and received 648 responses. 

The key findings were as follows:

  • 69% of under-18 respondents drink alcohol, which they are most likely to get from their friends and their parents.

  • 90% of over-18 respondents drink alcohol and 47% have taken drugs.

  • 57% of over-18 respondents have mixed alcohol and cannabis and 23% have mixed alcohol and cocaine.

  • The most common times for drinking were Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

  • 32% of respondents underestimated the number of units of alcohol that they drink per week whereas only 3% overestimated their units.

  • 84% of respondents drink at home, often to wind down or de-stress at the end of the day.

  • 8% of respondents have a drink problem and 22% of respondents have a family member with a drink problem. Those that have looked for help have done so mainly from GPs, Local Alcohol Services and friends.

  • 24% of respondents have, or have nearly, committed a crime whilst drunk. The main crimes they had committed were:
    • Vandalism
    • Getting into a fight
    • Drunk & Disorderly
    • Drink Driving

  • 21% of respondents have, or have nearly, been a victim of crime whilst drunk. The main crime they have been a victim of was assault.
