More than half of all cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are caused through
drunken sex.
When under the influence of alcohol many people don’t think that the use of a condom is necessary. Being drunk
also makes it harder to coordinate yourself, so going through the process of finding, unwrapping and putting on
a condom seems to be a long-winded chore for many, but not using one may very well leave you with regretful
feelings afterwards.
Women are 8 to 10 times more at risk of contracting STIs from an infected man by having unprotected sex. Not
only are women more likely than men to get STIs, they also tend to have a harder time detecting the presence of
an infection. Due to the vagina’s location, any physical symptoms that might appear in the area cannot be seen
easily. There is also the issue of unwanted pregnancies, with drunken sex and one-night-stands.
It is sensible to drink safely and always carry a condom with you, and to be sure that it is easily
accessible for the times you may need it.
